There is however, another plain marble fireplace in the same house (Christchurch Mansion) which has unusual charm. Here the simple ornament of the marble structure is confined to the flattened scroll supports. The overmantel is a plaster imitation of drapery arranged in elegant folds the better to set off the very charming bust, (it might be a portrait bust, or an imaginative figure).
This plaster drapery with its minute canopy is painted in scarlet with a gold fringe and tassels and is probably similar to the painted effects so much admired by Cecila Fiennes a few years earlier.

Now of the revivalists of Inigo Jones-one of the best examples in miniature as one could wish to find is that of Ston Easton in Somerset.
